Female age 50

"Since giving birth to my children in my early twenty's my body was a bit distorted, causing a great deal of discomfort in my hips.

I had tried various forms of therapy but they were all temporary and the discomfort always returned. Then I had a few sessions of BSR and am a year down the line with no more problems.

I go to visit Chris on a regular basis just to make sure I remain fit and supple, I am now fifty and feel fitter than I did at forty! One other thing that Body Stress Release has done for me, I can now sneeze without having to cross my legs! No more stress incontinence".

Female age 28

I found Body Stress Release and have never looked back. Two years ago whilst working my neck seized in one position. After a week of pain I went to a see a recommended Osteopath. After being clicked and cracked many times I still would find after a stressful job my neck would start to seize. I decided to stop seeing the Osteopath and try Body Stress Release which was highly recommended by a friend of mine.

To begin with I didnt feel much different (now I know this was because I had so many layers of compressed stress). After 4 sessions of BSR my neck was supple. Then one day I had pain in my coccyx which I recognised from years ago when I had a fall. This same pain I had for a few hours, because of BSR the muscles have been able to relax around the coccyx and then the nerve supply is able to get to this area to repair, so this is why it felt painful. The next day I was absolutely fine.

I have had BSR every other week for the past 12 months. Now I wake in the morning without backache, even after very stressful and strenuous days of work I still feel 100% and NO HEADACHES. Ever since the age of 13 when I was badly bittern by a dog I had eczema on my face, this has now disappeared. My varicose veins are improving (not so proud). I used to get constipated, not anymore. I used to have to get up to the night to pee, not anymore.

At the age of 18 I went on the pill because my period pains were so painful, at 27 I came off the pill.
The pain was back with a vengeance. As I continue with BSR, I now have no period pains.
Wonderful! Thanks to BSR. Now I look at BSR as a human way of an MOT. I used to abuse my body, thrashing it like a racing car which needs high maintenance, now I am repairing all those worn out parts, and maintaining my body by eating healthily and having regular BSR (MOT), I do still thrash it now and again but without the worry of mechanical failure.

Female age 26

With my medical background I am always fairly wary and sceptical of new therapies. I think, with my knowledge of anatomy and physiology, I find it hard to understand quite how some of them work. However I was pleasantly surprised with BSR. It makes perfect sense from an anatomical and physiological perspective. BSR describes itself as being only concerned with locating and releasing stored tension, thereby assisting the bodys inbuilt system to maintain and heal itself.

If you have muscle tension, it is going to restrict the nerves and veins that supply that area. If the nerves are restricted they cannot feed back to the brain properly to tell it whats wrong. It makes sense that the body knows how to heal itself, if you cut your hand you dont have to tell your body to heal it, it knows via the nerves transmitting back to the brain that something is wrong and sends out the appropriate white blood cells etc, to stop the bleeding and to mend the skin. Why should it be any different for any other bodily injury?

My Story:
As a child I had an accident where I fell full force onto my coccyx, (tail bone), then in my early twenties I went rollerblading and did exactly the same again. This resulted in me being unable to be able to sit on hard chairs or surfaces. I had to sit on soft chairs and then continually shift position to get comfortable. It constantly had the feeling of being bruised, I wouldnt let anyone touch it - I would jump a mile if anyone did and the coccyx also stuck out slightly at a funny angle. Although it was uncomfortable at times it was not severe enough to restrict my movement or what I did on a day to day basis, it was a niggling pain that came and went and I thought I would just have to get used to it.

I have been having BSR for about a year now and have had about 14 sessions. After the first few sessions of BSR my Coccyx felt slightly better, the pain lessened though there were times it still felt sore. After about my 8th or 9th session my coccyx became quite painful again for a few days. When I asked Chris about it he described it as an unmasking. I had initially injured my coccyx many years ago, resulting in the muscles tensing around it to protect the area, I then exacerbated it further with my second accident, so more muscles tensed up to protect the area further. This resulted in me having years worth of muscle tension around my coccyx.

The BSR had been gradually unlocking these layers of muscle tension, it had taken about 8 or 9 sessions in order to get to the bottom layers of tension, as this was released it allowed the nerves around the coccyx, (which had been inhibited from transmitting properly due to the muscles restricting them, therefore the message wasnt getting through to the brain), to begin telling the brain that there wasnt something right in that area, resulting in my body beginning to heal itself. After a few days the pain subsided and stopped. It wasnt until a few weeks after that that I realised that my coccyx did not stick out at a funny angle as before. With the muscle tension released the muscles then moved my coccyx back to where it should have been and stopped the pain.

I found BSR great for day to day wear and tear. I have just finished a degree, whilst doing my dissertation I spent hours and hours at a time on the computer which left me with achy hands and arms and a burning sensation across my shoulders followed by headaches. After one session of BSR this was gone because unlike my coccyx that had years of accumulated muscle tension, the pain from my computer sessions was technically a new injury, there was less muscle tension to release, so took fewer sessions. Chris also advised me to take regular breaks in order not to re-injure myself.

When I first began having BSR I was amazed that such a light touch from Chris could actually do anything. It was only as the sessions went on that I realised that he wasnt touching that lightly, but that my back was so full of muscle tension it was stopping the nerves transmitting properly so in effect could not feel how hard he was actually touching. In fact Chris says to me that if it feels uncomfortable that that is a good thing as it means my nerves are working efficiently feeding back to the brain what is doing.

Once you have had positive results from BSR it is hard not to become evangelical about it. My advice for anyone is to give it time. I think we are all used to therapies and even conventional medicine where they work immediately, though generally find a few days later the beneficial effects disappear leaving behind pain and discomfort as bad as before and in some cases worse than before. If you have an injury/pain that you have had for some time you cant expect it to go overnight, it has taken years to get to that stage so you cannot undo that after three therapy sessions.

I personally will carry on having monthly sessions of BSR. It has fixed my big injury to my coccyx, but I find BSR extremely helpful with day to day wear and tear through physical and emotional stress, its the nature of the world we now live in now. With BSR I dont have to put up with niggling pain such as an achy back or painful knee, I know BSR will assist my body in making itself better.

It is rather wonderful knowing that!
